Form P2 (BC): Submission for Estate Grant, Explained
What it is: Form P2 is the master application form for a BC estate grant — probate (with a will) or administration (without). It tells the court who died, who is applying, in what capacity, and what kind of grant you're asking for.
When you need it: every BC probate/administration application includes a P2. It's filed with the supporting affidavits (P3/P4 or the administration equivalents), the original will if there is one, the P10 Affidavit of Assets and Liabilities, proof the P1 notices went out, and the probate fee.
How to actually do it:
- Confirm which grant you're applying for (probate; administration with will annexed; administration without will).
- Complete the P2 with exact legal names — they must match the will and the death certificate precisely.
- Assemble the package: P2 + applicant affidavit + P10 + original will + P9 delivery affidavit(s) + fee.
- File at a Supreme Court of BC registry (any registry; many use the deceased's local one).
Common mistakes: name mismatches between the will, death certificate, and P2 (a top rejection reason); choosing the wrong grant type; missing exhibits.
